Stephenson's ABS challenge delivers free pizza to Reds fans
Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson's successful challenge of a ball call secured free pizza for fans during the team's 7-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies on April 28, 2026, at Great American Ball Park. Reliever Brock Burke's 98 mph fastball to Rockies second baseman Edouard Julien, ruled a ball by umpire Carlos Torres with a 1-2 count in the top of the ninth, flipped to a strike on review. That strikeout marked the Reds' 11th of the game, triggering a promotion for a free small one-topping pizza from LaRosa’s Pizza.
The ABS challenge system, which allows teams to contest ball and strike calls, has benefited players and now fans through the Reds' strikeout promotion. Stephenson, who had won one challenge earlier that night, signaled for the review by tapping his helmet. Reds broadcaster John Sadak captured the moment: "Stephenson has won one tonight, can he win pizza for those in the stands?"
The Reds tallied 11 strikeouts entering the ninth and finished with 12 after Burke struck out the next batter to end the game. Cincinnati improved to 19-10, maintaining its lead in the National League Central, while Colorado fell to 13-17.
The teams continue their three-game series Wednesday at 6:40 p.m. ET in Cincinnati.
