Martin County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Tiger Woods was taken into custody following a rollover crash on Jupiter Island, Florida, on March 27, 2026.[1][2]
Sheriff John Budensiek said at a press conference that Woods' vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it collided with another car, causing the vehicle to roll over onto the driver's side.[1]
Budensiek added that Woods exited the overturned vehicle by crawling out the passenger side.[1]
DUI investigators noted signs of impairment despite Woods registering zero for alcohol on breath tests. Woods refused a urine test and was charged with driving under the influence, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test, according to the sheriff's office.[1][2]
Tiger Woods, a 50-year-old American professional golfer from Jupiter, Florida, holds the record for 15 major championship victories, including five Masters titles in 1997, 2001, 2002, 2005, and 2019.[3][4]
The incident echoes Woods' prior traffic issues, including a May 29, 2017, DUI arrest in neighboring Palm Beach County on prescription medications and a February 23, 2021, single-vehicle rollover crash in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, where he sustained multiple leg injuries requiring surgery.[3][5]
Woods has made five starts on the PGA Tour since 2024, withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational, finishing 60th at the Masters, and missing the cut at the PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and Open Championship.[3][6]
The Masters Tournament is set to begin April 9, 2026, at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia.[4]
